Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

Additionally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to organize a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
