They also have carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work, or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and an automatic vacuum cleaner and mop bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer better cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum mop cleaner robot/mop to clean an entire home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different flooring types including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It has advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud that could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and better-looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.

It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have test. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
