The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and it will leave your floors clean. Its low cost and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are great features.

Examine your robot's brush frequently for tangled debris and hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models can also self-empty the onboard dust bin and place it in a larger bin located at the base. This can reduce the amount of fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. They also come with a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our first choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can alter the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on various flooring and rooms with different flooring types including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxes This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot vacuum best that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some extra cost it's a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its autonomous vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty those areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Finally a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum cleaners best vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we've test. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
