The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and it will leave your floors clean. Its price is surprisingly low and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are pluses.
Make sure to check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris and hair. Clean them as needed. Certain models also automatically empty the onboard dust bin and place it in a larger bin at the bottom. This can reduce the amount of fine dust that gets released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good robot vacuum scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.
It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and works while you are at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is great for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a decent cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to live some more volume and some extra cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will delight most.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and auto vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the amount of dirt they tend to be.
If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you have a number of furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuum cleaner vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like adorable eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we have tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
