How to Replace an new audi key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will show an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test as there are different pins on the connector, audi key copy (Mozillabd.science) and they all have different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading around 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this part, check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or injectors aren't firing anymore. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. When i crank the engine, there are no sparks i put tissue on the top of each of the injector holes, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th one stays closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car is able to start when the G28 is unplugged and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in however it has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value that is -49c even after unplugging it. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate a audi spare key cost in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them: simply put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to be aware of the position and speed the crankshaft to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you encounter a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could lead to an engine shutdown.

A failing G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox and a gearbox which shifts faster than normal, or an unfire when in gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. They're cheap and easy to find especially in the case of a Bosch sensor like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a myriad of issues in your vehicle. It is a crucial part of your audi replacement key fob's transmission, because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It sends signals via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to regulate fuel, timig, and boost, and also transmitting it to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor Spare Audi key to the tachometer. Also, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should detect the resistance to be around 1000 ohms in these areas.
