1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have examined. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like furniture leg. They also feature carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and works while you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, however it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competition. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and look better. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot vacuum that vacuums and mops employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time but this was not reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the amount of dirt they are.
If you have a bigger home, you should consider selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. Also a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the robot vacuum cleaners best mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create an automatic vacuum and mop robot spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app also gives access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
