The most effective robot vacuum will clean and vacuum your floors with no effort. It also leaves the floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line functions (such as dirt detector) are both positives.

Check your robot's brushes frequently for tangled debris and hair. Wash them if needed. Some models will automatically empty their onboard dustbin into a larger bin in the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've examined. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture leg. The robots also feature the feature of Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxes This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score 100% in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing with a little more noise and some additional cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop (navigate here) with many advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The autonomous vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. Also the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
