The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and it leaves your floors spotless. Its price is affordable and its high-end features (such as a dirt detector) are a plus.

Make sure you regularly inspect your robot hoover's brushes for hair tangled and large particles and wash them if needed. Some models will also empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in a larger bin located at the base. This reduces the amount fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They have motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they employ smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it sees an abundance of dirt on the carpet in order to get it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save some money. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the task of cleaning a whole home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the bulky units of the rivals. It is one of our most attractive looking robot hoover vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score 100% in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some additional cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty they tend to be.

For larger houses it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is useful if you have a number of furniture. Also, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
