The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a carpeted area, which helps prevent cross-contamination. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and automatic vacuum cleaner and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's more expensive and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the auto vacuum and mop and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas are.

If you own a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app also grants access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. It also has the ability to set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
