And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top pick), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also feature a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it sees a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it clean quickly.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our first option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.
It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work, or school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can alter the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot cleaner with mop we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work or at night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it's more expensive and create more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.
For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum mop cleaner robot to resume where it left off could be extremely useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd think from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
